The Things They Carried (Cliffs Notes)

Author: Jill Colella
Average review score:

Jill Colella
I would like to publicly state that Jill Colella is a total babe.

Great study aid
Cliff's notes once again delivers as a fantastic study aid. By no means should you use this as a replacement for the book. O'Brien has emerged as one of the greatest modern writers on the subject of war, and it would be a pity to overlook his writing. But if you are looking for help to write a paper on the topic, or just curious to discover more about the underlying meaning of the novel, don't hesitate to buy Cliff's Notes.

Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward Angel and of Time and the River
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (December, 1989)
Authors: Thomas Wolfe and Terence Dewsnap
Average review score:

one of the english language's top ten!
this book will really make you think about yourself as an american man. i am a 25 year old man who lives just 6 blocks from the "Dixieland" of Thomas Wolfe's childhood and his work can truly be a remarkable thing to read while you are sitting in the surroundings of the novels "Look Homeward, Angel" and "Of Time and the River". It is very surreal because his prose is like poetry which perfectly captures this little spot of america. i love mr. wolfe and will be reading him when i drop dead!!

This is THE great American Novel
Thomas Wolfe, never at a loss for words; in fact in he has used the entire English language to evoke what is now the lost soul of The American Male. Melancholia bathes the pages and streams into the heart of the reader, urging one on to find the forgotten spirit which blessed America before this country succumbed to its death of Soul in the latter half of the twentieth century. This is The novel, and Thomas Wolfe The writer of America's heart and soul

Abyssinian Cats: Everything About Acquisition, Care, Nutrition, Behavior, Health Care, and Breeding (Barron's Compete Pet Owner's Manuals)
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (April, 1995)
Author: J. Anne Helgren
Average review score:

People should read books like this BEFORE selecting kitty!
I recommend that anyone considering being owned by an Abyssinian read this book (the info is enlightening for already owned people as well). It covers in easily understood language everything one should know about Abyssinian Cats and how to care for them. It is simply enough written to be understood by children though not boring to adults. It could be used as a teaching tool for children in the home where kitty will live. The author starts at the beginning: How to buy the cat, acclimation, caring for it "Forever After," etc. She discusses controversial issues such as declawing (I'm personally opposed), grooming, showing, etc. The general care information would apply to most cats. But Abyssinians are very intelligent, loyal, inquisitive and active. If you want a cat that will NOT sit on the refrigerator, then perhaps this book would give the reader some understanding of the personality of the Abyssinian and guide the propsective cat owner toward making a good decision about whether or not to select this particular breed or another, less active, breed. Plenty of good photos.

ACT (Cliffs Quick Review)
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (October, 1999)
Author: Jerry Bobrow
Average review score:

A must for preparing for the ACT
This book was extremely helpful for my preparing for the ACT. I had been warned about the ACT, and I didn't know where to start. I then obtained this book and did the practise test. I agree with my friends about the ACT - the hardest thing is managing your time. It's not so much the difficulty of the questions, but rather your ability to answer the questions in the time alotted. With the help of this book I was able to become familiarized with the time allowed for each section. I was able to get a very good mark on my test which allowed me to go to the university of my choice. What a great book!

Agamemnon, The Choephori, The Eumenides (Cliffs Notes)
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (April, 1975)
Author: Robert J. Milch
Average review score:

Understanding Aeschylus' "Orestia" Trilogy
Robert Milch has authored several Cliffs Notes dealing with Greek plays besides this one looking at the "Orestia" of Aeschylus. This means that one thing all of Milch's volumes share is an excellent introductory section consisting of a Background of Greek Tagedy and Aristotle on Tragedy, which develops dozens of literary concepts using the original Greek vocabulary (e.g., protagonist, eccyclema, stasimon, harmartia, anagnorisis). Following a look at the Life of Aeschylus and his Extant Dramatic Works, Milch looks at the Mythological Background of the "Orestia" trilogy. Milch then provides an introductory note of the trilogy setting up the main idea that civil legal procedures are necessary for civilization to rise above a primitive state, after which he looks at the three plays--"Agamemnon," "The Choelphori" ("The Libation Bearers"), and "The Eumenides"--following the classical structure of Greek Tragedies he established at the start and providing Summary/Commentary for each distinct unit. Finally, he looks at the main characters of the play (Clytaemestra, Orestes, Electra, Agamemnon and Aegisthus), although you will find that the main analysis comes in looking at the specific episodes of the three plays. Because he is looking at an entire trilogy Milch has a lot of ground to cover, versus those Cliffs Notes which are devoted to a single work, but the strength of this volume is in setting up the specific elements of a Greek play and following through on it in the Summary/Commentary section. No matter what Greek tragedies you might be teaching/reading, the introductory section of Milch's books are well worth your time and lend themselves towards fascinating cookie-cutter criticism.
